New Year @ Barnsley Bowl was a frightening experience - New Year at Barnsley Bowl was a frightening experience as we hosted our Fright Night New Years Eve Party.

There were some great costumes and everyone had a fantastic time. We certainly saw the New Year in in style.

Next year we are thinking about a Jungle Theme but we are open to suggestions.

Santas Visit - On 17th & 18th December Santa came to visit Barnsley Bowl for Breakfast and children came from all over Yorkshire to see him.

He enjoyed it that much that he has promised to come again next year and to stay a bit longer this time.

So remember children he is keeping that list!!!

The Grolsch Scratch Doubles Season comes to an end - This season of the Sunday Scratch Doubles comes to an end this Sunday, and after a break over the summer months we are looking for new teams to join.

The league

is sponsored by Molson Coors UK, and this boosts the prize fund a great deal, with cash prizes for the top 3 teams as well as a cash for each point won.

The Mayor to Present Barnsley Young Bowlers Club with Prestigious Club Mark Accreditation. - On Saturday 14th May 2011 The Worshipful The Mayor – Councillor Margaret Sheard along with the South Yorkshire County Sports Co-coordinator Stuart Rogers, will be presenting Barnsley Bowl’s Young Bowlers Club with the prestigious Clubmark accreditation.

Clubmark is the only national cross sports quality accreditation scheme for clubs with junior sections. It is built around a set of core criteria which ensure that accredited clubs operate to a set of consistent, accepted and adopted minimum operating standards.

Sport England recognises and values the commitment made by sports clubs to develop high quality, welcoming environments for young participants. The development of clubs that encourage young people to take-up sport, improve their talents and give them the option to initiate and maintain life-long participation in sport is an essential part of Clubmark’s work to support the sporting infrastructure in England.

Barnsley Bowl’s Young Bowler’s Club President – Ian Hall and his committee have been working tirelessly to gain this accreditation for over a year. This presentation is in recognition of all of their hard work.

KEIRA REAY BOWLS OVER THE COMPETITION AT THE SOUTH YORKSHIRE SPORT AWARDS - Keira Reay stood shoulder to shoulder with some of South Yorkshire's Elite Sports men and women at the awards ceremony held at the English Institute of Sport on Wednesday 19th January 2011.

The night was topped off when it was announced that Keira had won the Junior Performer of the Year for her Tenpin Bowling achievements. In Keira's short career she has represented England at the World Sports Festival in Vienna, Bowled for England in the Triple Crown (Qualifying FIRST), She is the National Record Holder for the Intermediate Girls (Bowling 685 over 3 Games) and she has recently been selected for the England U19 Squad at the European Championships.

Bishop set to be ‘Bowled Over’ at Barnsley Bowl - Saturday 13th November 60 adults and children from 10 Churches from the Barnsley Church of England Deanery will gather at Barnsley Bowl to compete against each other in a tournament accompanied by the Bishop of Pontefract – the Rt Revd Tony Robinson.

The event is intended to bring together the people from across the Deanery and includes representatives from Athersley, Dodworth, Gawber, Monk Bretton, Penistone, The Town Centre, Silkstone, Staincross and Thurlstone.

The event takes place on Saturday 13th November at Barnsley Bowl at 7pm and all spectators will be welcome.

Barnsley Win This Year's Inter Centre Social League - Barnsley won this years Inter Centre Social League after playing squads from all over the region. The Barnsley Squad won 6 of their 8 matches - and topped the leaderboard with 301 points. The presentation will be made in Firth Park in front of representatives from all of the squads including Nottingham, Sheffield, York and Hull.

Barnsley Senior Open 2010 - Barnsley Bowl will be hosting this years Senior Open where the best Senior Bowlers from all over the country will be bowling for their Senior Team England ranking. Clean Sweep for Keira at Nationals - Tenpin Bowling sensation continues Wonderful year with Medal Haul

Tenpin Bowling star Keira Reay continued her brilliant 2010 with national success at junior and senior levels over the past two weeks.

The St Michael’s School pupil picked up a fantastic four gold medals at the National Championships in Nottingham then put in a fine performance against the best female bowlers in the country on bank holiday Monday.

In Nottingham Keira won the intermediate (under 15) singles, doubles team, and all events (the combined total of the scores in the other categories) titles. The 14 year old also broke the national records for the singles, and all events.

Then on Monday she held her own to finish 10th in the Scot Banks Tournament in Leeds despite being the youngest bowler there.

The event is one of the most prestigious in the tenpin calendar, and attracts the best bowlers in the country.

Keira’s brilliant 2010 includes 2 perfect games in which she recorded 300 points, the maximum possible in tenpin. When she did it for the first time she was younger than the previous youngest person in Europe to Bowl a maximum, but she was not competing in a recognised league so the record did not stand.

The bowling queen has just completed the first year in England’s Academy of Bowling. She will represent them in a tournament in Vienna from 7th July – 12th, which will feature teams from across Europe. In the longer term the 14 year old is keen to become a professional bowler . Once she graduates from the academy in 2 years time she hopes to follow in the footsteps of fellow Yorkshire girl Kirsten McGregor who earned a scholarship to a collage in USA based around bowling.

Keira Reay has been selected to go to Vienna - Recently one of our young bowlers Keira Reay has been selected to go to Vienna and bowl in the World Sports Festival with the England Under 18's Squad. Keira has bowled 2 perfect 300 games in the last 3 months at Barnsley Bowl at just 13 years of age. She finished a recent competition in 1st place naming her the top female in the country for her age group.

Keira is the youngest female in the UK to bowl a 300 game and recently bowled in the Adult Nationals with Elliott Crosby, the youngest boy to have a recorded 300.

Keira started bowling at 7 years old when her mum became an employee at Barnsley Bowl. Her family and Barnsley Bowl would like other people to see Keira's achievements and encouraging like minded youngsters to be active in sport.

Youngest person to Bowl a perfect 300 game - Keira Reay, 13 years old, is officially the youngest person to Bowl a perfect 300 game in Europe and it was bowled at Barnsley Bowl. Keira, who has recently been accepted in the England Bowling Acadamy, has been bowling for six years and has come on in leaps and bounds. Recently selected to bowl for Team England in the adult Nationals competition at Nunneaton, Keira hopes to continue to improve her game. She has recently smashed the House High Series record so we at Barnsley Bowl think she will go far!! Good Luck Keira.

Newlyweds - Newlyweds Adele and Pete booked some lanes at Barnsley Bowl to celebrate their wedding with 60 guests. The happy couple, the Bridesmaides and all the groomsmen stayed in their wedding outfits throughout the bowling session. "It was brilliant" said Adele, "..everybody enjoyed it - It was a nice change - It went down really well". Adele was that taken with her bowling shoes, in fact, that she wore them home!!
